As a small business owner, you may be struggling to find the resources and funding necessary to grow and succeed. Thankfully, there are many grant opportunities available that can provide the financial support you need.
One of the most well-known grant programs for small businesses is the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This program provides grants to small businesses that are conducting research and development in technology-based fields. The grant funds can be used to develop and commercialize new products and services, and the program also offers technical assistance and mentoring to grant recipients.
Another grant opportunity for small businesses is the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. This program is similar to the SBIR program, but it focuses on collaboration between small businesses and research institutions. STTR grants are available to small businesses that are working with research institutions to develop and commercialize new technologies.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also offers a variety of grant programs for small businesses. The SBA's Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) provide grants to small businesses that are looking to expand and create jobs. The SBA also offers grants to small businesses that are located in underserved areas or that are owned by women or minorities.
In addition to federal grant programs, there are many state and local grant programs available for small businesses. These programs often focus on specific industries or regions, and they can provide funding for a variety of purposes, such as start-up costs, expansion, and research and development.
Some of our favorite private programs are listed below:
The David Prize: $200,000 available to New Yorkers only
NASE Growth Grants: Business development grants up to $4000, awarded quarterly. Open to all.
Tory Burch Foundation: Year-long fellowship with a $5k grant open to women-owned business

Cartier Women’s Initiative Award: open to female-owned businesses that aim to have a strong sustainable and social impact. Prizes up to $100,000.

If you are a small business owner looking for grant resources, it is important to do your research and find programs that align with your business goals and needs. Grant programs can provide valuable support and funding, but they can also be competitive, so it is important to carefully prepare your application and provide all necessary documentation.
As a small business owner, you may also benefit from working with an accountant who is familiar with grant opportunities and can help you navigate the application process. An accountant can help you understand the eligibility requirements and help you prepare a strong application that maximizes your chances of receiving grant funds.
